SWINE FLU!!!? WHAT NEXT!?

You might not know this but my DH's degree is actually geared toward epidemiology (the study of the spread of disease). So this new Swing Flu epidemic is really peaking his interest.

I know this isn't coupon clipping, but DOES fit in the provident living category, and here are tips that he shared with me along with a grain of salt so to say.

The way this is passed is the same as the traditional flu bug, and that is NOT through the air. The flu can live on surfaces for a long time having been spread by a carrier and then along comes a healthy person touches that object and then scratches their eye and there you have it...transmission.

So the BEST form of protection is something that is pretty simple. WASH YOUR HANDS. KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR MOUTH NOSE AND EYES (and your kids' too) AND LASTLY SANITIZE SURFACES WHEN IT IS REALISTIC.

Good examples would be bathroom surfaces, kitchen surfaces etc.

The best examples would be shopping carts, your STEERING WHEEL, and things you touch a lot after being in public (what about that cell phone?)

Read up and be smart! Do what you feel is realistic for your family, and be clean.

I am so glad that I got that DEAL on Clorox last fall. (4 gallons of Clorox brand bleach and 4 spray bottles of hard surface disinfectant or disinfectant wipes for $4.00 )

Provident Living paying off? I have my supplies and don't need to run out and pay full price so I would say YUP!!!

Happy hand washing!

I found it on Eb*y.....

I have a friend that got 100 coupons for Blueberry morning for that last cereal deal a while back and MAN she stocked up! (she has 9 kids)

I asked how she found that many of ONE type of coupon and she told me her "secret"....ebay!

So last week, Smiths was running a special that put McCormick spice rubs FREE after coupons, and I thought that this might be my chance to try the ebay thing.

I paid $3.75 for 20 coupons which comes out at $.019 cents a piece. After all was said and done they arrived the DAY AFTER the sale was over. Most of the lateness was my fault as I didn't think to try ordering the coupons until Saturday in hopes that they would arrive on or before Tuesday's mail. They arrived in Wednesday's, so I can't put it against the person I paid to clip the coupons for me.

Well, now Broulim's has their McCormic spice Grinders on sale for $1.50 and now I have 20 $1.00 off coupons in my hand.

Here is the tricky part...do I use them now with the net cost being 69 cents each or hold out for a better sale with the risk that a good sale might NEVER hit before my coupons expire?!!! ( they expire June 30th)

Coupons!!!

I found this link, get yourself some free coupons mailed to you (they are P&G!!!). They won't be here in time for this sale, but you can have them around for the next one I am sure!!!

http://www.cascadeclean.com/en_US/specialoffers.do

Worth taking a trip for....

I am not listing deals that need a Red Plum coupon as it is highly unlikley anyone actually has any of them right now....

*Glaceau Vitamin water10 20 oz. FREE after coupon (look in the 4/5 Smart Saver insert)
*Duncan Hines brownie mix 19.2-19.9 oz. $0.65 after coupon ( lookin the 2/1 SS insert)
worth getting if you didn't hit the Ghidradelli deal in October
*Mission medium flour tortillas 8 ct. Limit 4 FREE after coupon (Requires in-ad store coupon. *1.00/1 printable at this link and this link )
*Kingsford Match Light charcoal $7.99.... 13.5 lb. THEN 6.00 off pork when you buy 1 Kingsford 13.5 lb. and 1 other product listed. (Includes Ball Park franks, see in-ad coupon.) If you were going to be buying meat anyway this would be like paying $1.99 for a BAG!!! My DH is anti-propane so this is VERY worth my time!

For the P&G promo look at this link: (items in the grey blocks)
http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/coupons/store_sales.php?id=UT_Albertsons_Apr29_May05

P&G starts tommorrow!!!!

Albertson's is running their Proctor and Gamble in the morning!

This is the time to reallllly watch your stock on key items that are hard to find on sale (TIDE).

So the deal with P&G is:

Spend $20.00 on participating products and get $5.00 back on your NEXT purchase.

Check out the items on sale in the store @:
http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/coupons/store_sales.php?id=UT_Albertsons_Apr29_May05

THEN there is a bonus apparently:

"P&G Smart Saver + Earn a coupon to save an ADDITIONAL $3 on 3 P&G products in your next shopping order when you purchase 3 participating items from the $5/$20 promo. $3 coupon is valid on your next purchase of 3 Bonus P&G products. Bonus products are: Bounty Basics, Charmin Basics, Crest Toothpaste, Gain, Herbal Essence, Joy or Pampers. Coupon prints at checkout when you purchase 3 participating products, and is valid on P&G products in your next shopping order." (quoted from the PYP web site)

Here is the complication to this sale. A lot of the coupons that are listed are RP (Red Plum) and right now in this area we are only getting SS (Smart Source) until July or so. The positive side is that on the LAST p&G sale there was an offer that if you mailed in receipts for $50.00 worth of product (before promo) then P&G sent you a savings booklet with over $120.00 worth of coupons in them. They are ALL high value coupons. They expire at different times in the year, but all of them can be used now, so it is up to you to decide if you think you can do better later in the year! Good luck!

Coupon Binders

"So what is the deal with that BINDER!?"

I get that one a lot. It is a school trapper-keeper type binder from a variety store. I bought a pretty deluxe one because it has file pockets, zipper pouches and all kinds of things that are really quite handy in the stores. What is in it? Coupons...in baseball card sleeves. Scissors, a calculator, a sharpie marker, and my lists for THAT shopping trip. I do NOT keep old recipts with me (way bulky) although I do go through them when I go home to see how my savings went.

The idea is to be organized, efficient, and fast. A big bulky mess is not going to save you any time, and might even make it so you miss a deal. Invest in a good one and if there is any feature you must make sure your binder has, make sure it has a ZIPPER!!! ( imagine 2,000 store coupons blowing in the beautiful Idaho wind because you dropped your binder - don't think it wouldn't happen!)

The following clip is from www.pinchingyourpennies.org, and contains a clip from www.youtube.com that a WONDERFUL moderator from PYP has posted. It may help you with your deciding how to handle all those coupons! Take a look! ....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcbs...feature=related

KS likes the baggie method. She researches her sale, then makes her list, along with the number of items she will be buying and puts the list, and coupons in a sandwich baggie and tucks it into his jeans and she is hands free to wrestle her kiddo (s) and shop without the bulk. The disadvantage to that is IF there is a good deal she missed, she has to return later with the coupons and do it again.

Both ways work just fine, it just depends on what you want out of your couponing.

Coupon doubling

A little birdie whispered in my ear while at Albertson's that although coupon doublers have been pretty rare in the past, and pretty spread out, that latley they are hitting bi-weekly, and to keep an eye out although there is no guarantees there. If that proves to be true, and last week we had doublers, this week is doubler free, then NEXT week we might see them again.

Doublers are fun because Albertson's will double your manufacturers coupon up to a dollar, which can add up to some killer deals.

TUNA

Oh yeah, Albertson's has Sunkist Tuna in the pouches that come out at $1.50 on sale, then after the coupon ($1.50 off of three packs) it brings the price down further. However.....buy 4 Tuna at $1.50 = $6.00 - the coupon = $4.50 THEN get $1.50 off of the purchase of a loaf of bread. If you figure in the bread to the tuna price it comes out at = 75 cents a pouch. That is an ok deal. We have seen a quarter though, so not quite the price to go buy a case, but if your needing tuna.....better than retail.

New to couponing? Albertson's in Rexburg has the coupons stuck to the display. No clipping needed.

Free lip balm from Bath an dBody works!!!

Read this blog and print out the coupon if you are able to make it to a Bath and Body Works tommorrow, just buy some little trial sized thing and get a lip balm with this printable......the author of the blog claims that the C.W. Bigelow lip balm "is addicting". cHeCk iT oUt!!!

Albertson's Kraft/ConAgra Sale 4/24/09

I am down to 1/2 a box of Cascade in my pantry for automatic dishwasher detergent. Not a good thing! Anyway, I went to the PYP web site, looked up the shopping guide, and found which store had Electrasol on sale. Why? Because I had coupons (6) for $2.50 off. Broulims has their Electrasol tabs and gel packs on sale for $3.88 so I grabbed them while on my way to car pool for track. All and all it cost me $1.38 per box before tax. Not too shabby! Then after track it was off to Albertson's to see what I could find. K.S. was soooo right, there are some definite holes in their stock due to problems at the warehouse. Ketchup? nope. Manwich? Nope Bagelfuls? Nope

It made it really hard to make the Con Agra sale work since it needed to be in $25.00 increments. I didn't want to spend all my money on 25 cans of Ro-Tel, even though I wanted SOME. In the end I spent $57.62 and saved $98.64 from retail prices. Nothing that made my pennies scream by any means. I used $36.50 in coupons, and that my friends pays for the paper! The highlights of this one for me was the Kraft Salad Dressing = FREE!!! and I loaded up on Frozen Healthy Choice dinners.

I am not sure if this will be a good thing or not. It is promoted as health food, and I am not sure if my DH will try them, but right now he is eating two meals a day away from home during his work week, so it is worth a try. I paid 20 cents for the first two and 70 cents for the others because I had different coupons.

All and all I didn't really stock up on a whole lot because #1, I am replenishing product that is already on my pantry shelves, and #2, I am really crossing my fingers that we will see 33 cents for Betty Crocker again......I can hope!!!

Anyway I asked K.S. to post her shopping trip on the blog because she did WAY better than I did when she went in the a.m. she ran into some couponers that were really organized . She got a pretty good deal on flour which is always nice.

Overall, I am happy with my trip....kinda. Yogurt will be eaten as a staple in my house, and maybe the Healthy Choice will be a good thing, but overall there is a sore lack of staples on this trip, and really that should be a main focus. Thus I was disappointed about the lack of ketchup, etc that I mentioned before.

Heads up though, we might see *Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce* uNdEr a dollar sometime in the next few weeks. That is the price to beat, cross your fingers!!!

Post Register

If you call the circulation desk and have your P.Y.P. special put onto an auto pay program they are going to offer a discount!

Right now the deal is = get your daily paper + 5 Sunday papers for $20.00

Is that worth subscribing to? The Jury is still out, if you can get a better deal let me know, but historically I have more than paid for the papers in savings.

If I go to the gas station and buy 5 Sunday papers per week, then my monthly cost will rack quickly up to $7.50 per week x 4 weeks = $30.00 a month. DEFINITELY WORTH THE SUBSCRIPTION PRICE!

NOW if you do an auto pay PR is going to drop the price to $17.00 a month. That comes down to 85 CENTS PER SUNDAY PAPER, and that is not taking into account for the paper that will come weekly. Now keep in mind the Sunday paper is NOT the only place for deals, Albertson's for example likes to plant "doublers" in inserts and odd places that can greatly increase savings!!! For example TODAY is supposed to have some GREAT coupons in the paper and it is WEDNESDAY!!!

For those that only get Sunday Papers sometimes, or are waiting for the deal to happen before looking for the coupon here is a word of warning. It is not unusual for the coupon to be 3-4 weeks old and ALMOST ready to expire before you can use it to it's maximum potential. Thus buying a Sunday paper because there might be a good sale on the following Wednesday will NOT pay off, as you will most likely need coupons from 2-3, maybe even a month prior to the sale.

If you buy 2 Sunday papers a week and do that weekly for 4 weeks your cost is $12.00 a month. That purchase plan will give you 2 of each coupon needed, for another $5.00 a month that will give you 5 of every Sunday coupon insert, and you won't miss out on the weekly random deals.

The only way I know that will be a better deal is:

#1 find friends who take the paper that don't coupon

#2 the Rexburg Standard Journal has bi-weekly papers + 5 Saturday papers (they don't circulate on Sunday) for $11.00, but out where I live they aren't willing to deliver.

Just some food for thought!!! Happy Couponing!!!

Broulim's list 4/15-4/21

Western Family mixes, i.e. dressings, gravy etc. are going to be 3/$1.00. Thanks PYP for all of your WORK!

We are told from a young age that we all have something special to offer. How easy it is to think that to be something special, one must fit into a mold of what our society values.

Talents come in all forms, and although not always revealed in such a big way, we all have things to offer that might surprise and uplift those around us.

Take a moment, watch this link that I have posted here, and ponder what your personal talent that might be. Whether it be a little hidden; either to yourself or to others, or something that you might not consider a talent at all. Having watched this video I was brought to think about how sometimes we forget our own worth because of fear of the scoffing from the great and spacious building. Please watch this!

COUPON DOUBLING

Ok, so here is a GREAT thing!

Albertson's has been doing random inserts in the Post Register (not sure if in the Standard Journal or not) that contain doublers for coupons.

The rule is that you can only use coupons with a value UP TO a dollar and they will match the amount on the coupon.

B.B. got Scotty's toilet paper (4 pack I think she said) for get this 17 CENTS!!! That was using her doubler with a coupon from a Sunday paper insert.

She also got Downy fabric softner for 99 CENTS!!! Screaming!!! To get that deal she used her doubler with a coupon from her DEAR Proctor and Gamble booklet that some of you may or may not have heard about. A while back if you spent $50.00 on PnG items then you could send the receipts in and get this amazing booklet full of high value coupons. It seems that it is already worth the stamp my friends!!!

Going in with K.S. this afternoon after meetings to see what other deals we can troll up!
